The epitope is derived from isolates of patients with HCV genotype 2 a/c.
A patient's sera cross-reacted with the epitope but not with peptide P2, the sequence of which was derived from another infected patient and shares 5 positions. Binding of the patient's sera to the epitope was not inhibited significantly (15.4%) by absorption of the sera with immobilized peptide P2. The authors conclude that cross-reactivity of the sera was not related to the number of homologous residues between peptides.
