name:
In vivo testing of subunit vaccines against malaria sporozoites using a rodent system.
description:
The peptide contains 3 tandem repeats of the 6-mer QGPGAP. The sequence is from the central region of the circumsporozoite protein containing 15 tandem repeats of the 6-mer QGPGAP.
Sera from mice of strains BALB/c, B6.D2, and B10.BR immunized with the epitope reacted by indirect immunofluorescence with sporozoites obtained from mosquitoes that fed on the vaccinated animals after infection with 500 live sporozoites. Analyses of the parasite DNA by Southern blotting and duplex melting indicated that the nucleotide sequence of the repeat domain was indistinguishable in the parasites that infected the unimmunized and immunized mice. The authors conclude that infection of vaccinated mice was not caused by variants.
