name:
Rhoptry-associated protein 1-binding monoclonal antibody raised against a heterologous peptide sequence inhibits Plasmodium falciparum growth in vitro.
description:
This is part of a set of overlapping 15-mer peptides covering the P. falciparum rhoptry-associated protein 1 (RAP-1) sequence from residues 23 to 294.
Epitope mapping analysis was performed in order to identify reactive residues between p191-224 on RAP-1. Synthetic 15-mer peptides spanning the sequence between 23-294 were generated for this analysis. Epitope assignments by peptide mapping were consistent with results obtained by Western blotting with the truncated rRAP-1 molecules. All anti-rRAP-1 p23-711 mAbs showed a parasite growth-accelerating effect, rather than an inhibitory effect.
