Monoclonal antibody binding to different P. falciparum isolates was examined by immunofluorescence. Positive binding was found to FCQ-27/PNG, Indochina 1, KF 1933, HB3, FCR-3 K+, NF7, V1, K1, and T9-94 isolates. In those isolates where a threonine has replaced the proline at amino acid 160 (FUP/Palo Alto, Malayan Camp, and NF54 (3D7 clone)), binding of the mAb to the parasites could not be detected by immunofluorescence.
