Synthetic peptide vaccine confers protection against murine malaria.
|
| description: |
The circumsporozoite protein contains multiple tandem repeats of the sequence DPPPPNPN.
In two experiments, 87% (7 of 8) and 75% (6 of 8) of mice immunized with the epitope were protected against malaria infection after challenge with 1000 spororzoites (i.v.) 15 days after the last boost. This was comparable to the 85% (6 of 7 mice) protection rate achieved by immunization with irradiated parasites. All naive mice and mice immunized with TT were not protected.
