LKM1 autoantibodies in chronic hepatitis C infection: a case of molecular mimicry?
|
| description: |
Anti-liver-kidney microsome type 1 (LKM1) autoantibodies from 3 patients chronically infected by hepatitis C virus were affinity-purified using immobilized CYP2D6 (cytochrome P450 2D6) protein. The affinity-purified antibodies recognized the epitope from a phage display library. The epitope sequence can be aligned with residues 2194-2200 of HCV 1a NS5a protein. The authors suggest that the antibodies recognize cross-reactive conformational epitopes on CYP2D6 and HCV proteins.
