The motif (S/T)AVDD seems to be important for binding to the monoclonal antibody 18/2 since it also occurs in other mimotopes (that bind to 18/2). Sera from individuals residing in Papua New Guinea, a malaria-endemic area, recognized the mimotope by ELISA.
