Rhoptry-associated protein 1-binding monoclonal antibody raised against a heterologous peptide sequence inhibits Plasmodium falciparum growth in vitro.
|
| description: |
In 1987, three peptide sequences derived from proteins isolated from P. falciparum-infected erythrocytes, which conferred partial protection against P. falciparum infection in Aotus monkeys. These partial sequences were incorporated into the synthetic peptide vaccine SPf66. One of these sequences, 35.1, was derived from an as yet unidentified protein.
All binding reactions were exothermic. Both Mabs (SP5.2 and SP8.18) showed comparable binding constants (0.005 and 0.002 1/nM, respectively.), Kb, for binding to the monomeric peptide 35.1. Cysteines were added to the N- and C-terminus ends of the peptide.
