Epitope-specific humoral immunity to Plasmodium vivax Duffy binding protein.
|
| description: |
Natural polymorphism is found at position 13 of this peptide. This region has been previously identified as containing a T cell epitope.
Sera samples from P.vivax exposed individuals were analyzed for reactivity to a set of overlapping peptides covering the residues critical binding region from DBP region II. Of the 36 samples that showed preferential binding to one or more peptides, several recognized this peptide, implying the presence of a dominant B cell epitope. This peptide also inhibited binding of sera to rDBP-II. Recognition of dominant epitopes correlates with age, and samples from acutely infected individuals failed to recognize this and other peptides, as well as denatured DBP, implying that initial recognition is towards conformational epitopes, and the appearance of linear epitopes is a later event.
