""Universal"" T helper cell determinants enhance immunogenicity of a Plasmodium falciparum merozoite surface antigen peptide.
|
| description: |
The authors identify this epitope as having been derived from the P. falciparum major merozoite surface antigen (PMMSA, gp195). The provided sequence does not match the current SP/Genbank database sequences. It is cited to be derived from the K1 strain sequence as published in J. Mol. Blol. 195:273. In that reference the sequence provided matches the current SP/Gb sources, with a D6, K19 and T20.
Immunization with p8-tt830-844 after priming with TT elicited high anti-p8 antibodies as measured on day 70 in all 7 strains tested. This is in contrast to a complete lack of responsiveness in this strain without the carrier protein. Similar results were observed when using the entire tetanus toxin (TT) as the carrier with the immunogen, versus the tt830-844 peptide.
