This epitope represents one of several possible tetrapeptide repeat cadences within the immunodominant region of the P. falciparum circumsporozoite (CS) protein.
Monoclonal antibodies produced against P. falciparum sporozoites recognized this phage-displayed library heptapeptide weakly. The authors conclude that Asx-Pro sequences play an important role in peptide conformation and antibody binding and that the tetrapeptide cadence influences both of these.
