The sequence was obtained from a genomic expression library constructed from Plasmodium falciparum genomic DNA.
Protective and non-protective monkey sera did not react with the epitope expressed from a clone encoding a fusion protein with beta-galactosidase. The sera were tested by in situ colony immunoassay. Protective monkey serum was able to confer protection from P. falciparum to a naive monkey on passive transfer.
