Identification of a Plasmodium berghei antigen sharing common features with P. falciparum and P. chabaudi parasitophorous-vacuole membrane antigens.
|
| description: |
The P. berghei exp-1 antigen cross-reacted with an antibody directed against the epitope from the P. falciparum exp-1 protein. Immunoblot analysis was performed with Plasmodium berghei-infected erythrocytes and polyclonal antibody raised against the epitope. The antibody reacted specifically with a 43-kDa protein of P. berghei, which was not present in uninfected mouse erythrocytes. The 43-kDa antigen from P. berghei was affinity-purified and three peptides from the purified antigen were sequenced. The sequences of all three peptides shared significant similarities with the P. chabaudi antigen Ag3008, and one peptide had significant homology between P. berghei, P. chabaudi, and P. falciparum.
