Chemically synthesized peptides of hepatitis B surface antigen duplicate the d/y specificities and induce subtype-specific antibodies in chimpanzees.
|
| description: |
Chimpanzees immunized with the epitope, peptide 49, conjugated to KLH generated a brisk primary and secondary response to HBsAg. While all three animals showed anti-HBsAg reactivity, the one receiving the vaccine in incomplete Freund's showed the highest response (as compared to alum or alum/pertussis). All anti-HBsAg titers decayed with time and subsequent boosts only induced low-level, transient responses.
