name:
Location and chemical synthesis of a pre-S gene coded immunodominant epitope of hepatitis B virus.
description:
The location of the antigenic determinant was predicted using hydrophilicity analysis of the entire pre-S amino acid sequence to be within residues 120-145. RIA demonstrated that sera from rabbits immunized with the epitope generated both peptide- and HBsAg-specific antibodies. Titers increased 4-fold every 2 weeks between week 2 and 8. A Cys residue was added to the C-terminus of the epitope for the purpose of coupling carrier molecules.
