This peptide was selected from a 15-mer random library by its ability to bind mAb 18/4, which recognizes residues 28-37 of the pre-S1 region of HBsAg.
This peptide, as others with homology to the DPAF residues of HBsAg (positions 31-34), was selected by panning of a library with mAb 18/7. It is able to compete the binding of the mAb to Pre-S1-containing HBsAg protein. This is in agreement with mimotope containing residues that match the central core DPAF of the HbsAg Pre-S1 epitope recognized by the mAb. Nevertheless, the involvement of other residues outside that core motif cannot be excluded.
