This peptide was selected from a 15-mer random library by its ability to bind mAb 18/4, which recognizes residues 28-37 of the pre-S1 region of HBsAg.
This peptide, as others with homology to the DPAF residues of HBsAg (positions 31-34), was selected by panning of a library with mAb 18/7 directly to polystyrene beads, which proved to be the most effective method (compared to direct linking to latex beads and streptavidin-biotin linking to polystyrene plates) to obtain consensus-bearing mimotopes. Its reactivity was confirmed by immunoblot.
