description:	The mimotope was selected using a mAb against an unknown Chlamydophila pneumoniae epitope. MAb 8A6 bound to the epitope and to the epitope expressed from a phage clone. The epitope-expressing clone was selected from a 12-mer phage display library using mAb 8A6 as the capture antibody. The epitope had no homology to known sequences in the genome of Chlamydophila and Chlamydia species. MAb 8A6 did not bind to sonicated lysates of C. pneumonaie on Western blots. The authors conclude that mAb 8A6 recognizes a discontinuous epitope.
