name:
A single 10-residue pre-S(1) peptide can prime T cell help for antibody production to multiple epitopes within the pre-S(1), pre-S(2), and S regions of HBsAg.
description:
This peptide from the HBsAg of ayw subtype is also found conserved in the adw2 subtype.
No significant IgG recognition of this peptide is obtained in SJL/J mice after immunization with a suboptimal dose of preS2-containing (Large) HBsAg, but priming the response with the longer peptide 94-117, able to function as a T helper epitope, enhances the response to this peptide. Priming with T helper epitope 12-32 did not enhance the response. The response cannot therefore be attributed solely to the T helper function of the longer peptide since it also primed B cells relevant to this peptide.
