name:
Analysis of the antigenic properties of the L. infantum Hsp70: design of synthetic peptides for specific serodiagnosis of human leishmaniasis.
description:
The sequence is from the reference: Quijada et al. (1996) Immunol. Letts. 52: 73-79.
Sera from 5 of 8 patients with mucocutaneous leishmaniasis and sera from 8 of 14 combined leishmaniasis (mucocutaneous and visceral) patients reacted with the epitope, whereas sera from 0 of 10 patients with Chagas' disease reacted with the epitope. However, sera from patients with leishmaniasis or Chagas' disease reacted with L. infantum Hsp70, which shares >85% sequence identity with T. cruzi Hsp70. The authors conclude that the epitope is a specific tool for differential serodiagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis and Chagas' disease.
