The epitope was selected from a phage display library of nonapeptides using T. cruzi (CAI and RA strains)-infected rabbit sera that was affinity purified on immobilized T. cruzi trans-sialidase (TcTS). Sera from 11 rabbits infected with several T. cruzi stocks reacted with phage bearing the mimotope.
