The epitope conform to the consensus motif X-P-X-X-S-X-T-X, found to have homology to the LWPCKSNTD region of ricin chain B, to which the selecting mAb was raised. The sequence LWPCKSNTD is also found in the sequence-related, non-toxic lectin RCA-1, also from R. communis.
The epitope and other peptides conforming to the X-P-X-X-S-X-T-X motif were selected by the anti-ricin chain B mAb from a random peptide library.
