name:
Structures of the glycopeptidolipid antigens of Mycobacterium abscessus and Mycobacterium chelonae and possible chemical basis of the serological cross-reactions in the Mycobacterium fortuitum complex.
description:
This is 3,4-di-O-methylrhamnosyl moiety of glycopeptidolipid (GPL). It is found in the GPL of Mycobacterium chelonae, M. absessus and M. peregrinum.
Epitope was identified by using purified glycopeptidolipid (GLP) with various carbohydrate moieties from M. fortuitum complex (M. abscessus, M. peregrinum and M. chelonae) and by beta-elimination with alkaline borohydride. Antiserum from animals immunized with crude lipid extracts from M. chelonae recognized the epitope in GPLS from M. abscessus and M. peregrinum.
