name:
Anticardiolipin antibodies from patients with the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome recognize epitopes in both beta(2)-glycoprotein 1 and oxidized low-density lipoprotein.
description:
All 22 serum samples demonstrated IgG binding to the epitope in a direct chemiluminescent immunoassay. Immunoassay of protein A-purified IgG fractions from sera of 4 APS patients showed similar results. The epitope inhibited APS serum IgG binding to ß2GP1 protein and to copper-oxidized LDL (CuOx-LDL). Anti-ß2GP1 Ab showed that substantial amounts of human b2GP1 (from the APS serum) bound to the epitope. All 22 APS serum bound to the epitope covalently bound to ß2GP1 protein.
