name:
Identification of a dominant epitope in the hemagglutinin of an Asian highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 clade 1 virus by selection of escape mutants.
description:
The epitope was defined by the loss of hemagglutination inhibition and virus neutralization activities by monoclonal antibodies in mutant viruses grown in the presence of the neutralizing antibodies.
The epitope specific monoclonal antibodies neutralized the virus in vitro. Viruses mutated at K189 (K205) were not neutralized by the monoclonal antibodies.
