name:
Anticardiolipin antibodies, livedo reticularis, and major cerebrovascular and renal disease in systemic lupus erythematosus.
description:
Twenty-three of 98 patients with SLE demonstrated anti-cardiolipin IgG. A breakdown of clinical associations within this SLE group showed low levels were found in three patients (5%) with systemic sclerosis, and one patient with Felty's syndrome who also had thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. All patients with chronic localized cutaneous lupus or idiopathic valvular heart disease had normal levels. Moderately increased levels were found in three (19%) false positive VDRL sera. There was a highly significant association of increased IgG ACA with the occurrence of cerebrovascular accidents (p=0.001).
