| name: |
An N-glucosylated peptide detecting disease-specific autoantibodies, biomarkers of multiple sclerosis.
|
| description: |
Removal of the glucosylation modification eliminated the response. Mutational analysis revealed that a ß-hairpin motif was required for maximal binding. Development of anti-epitope antibodies paralleled clinical activity and brain lesions positive to MRI. AutoAbs specific to the epitope isolated from MS patients recognized myelin and oligodendrocyte antigens. The response in MS patients was significantly higher than the response in patients with other autoimmune disorders. The response was not significantly higher than the response in healthy donors or patients with other inflammatory neurological diseases.
