One of the two antibodies directed to the epitope (O-PS repeating unit of strain 57 LPS) is shown to react with the LPS and O-PS preparations from strain 61, differing only in the anomeric configuration of the Qui residue. Reactivity is shown to be lower in strength than the reactivity to the homologous LPS or O-PS by direct ELISA and Western blot. No reactivity is seen in competition ELISA where the heterologous LPS or O-PS are unable to compete the binding to the homologous LPS.
