The reactivity of the anti-sera to LPS from different strains of P. vulgaris and P. mirabilis allowed for the determination of the epitope as the shared structure in the LPS recognized. Higher recognition of the homologous LPS, compared to those where the epitope is flanked by other CHO residues, is nevertheless seen.
