Analysis of the immune response against mixotope peptide libraries from a main antigenic site of foot-and-mouth disease virus.
description:
This peptide was derived as a consensus sequence of antigenic site A, corresponding to the GH loop of the FMDV VP1 protein residues 134-155. In order to circularize this peptide, Tyr136 and Arg153 were replaced with Cys residues.
Guinea pigs vaccinated with the consensus epitope A22(147P) were capable of neutralizing all five FMDV strains tested. Vaccination with the cyclic form of the epitope generated much higher titers than the linear form, though 3 of four animals responded in each case.
