MAb 5-5B neutralized the cytotoxicity of Stx1 and Stx mutants T1A and G25A, but not N55T, indicating that residue N55 was an epitopic determinant of the antibody. MAb 5-5B was shown to bind Stx1 B subunits and inhibit the binding of Stx1 to Ramos cells. MAb 5-5B did not bind to cell-bound Stx1.
