name:
Vaccines prepared from chimeras of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) induce neutralizing antibodies and protective immunity to multiple serotypes of FMDV.
description:
The numbers assigned to amino acid positions in the paper are based on the heterotypic O1 BFS VP1 strain sequence, and the C3 Resende sequence has gaps within it for alignment, so the number of bases present does not agree with the numbering. In addition, the available database sequence is only a partial sequence (733 aa) of the polyprotein, containing the VP1, of C3 Resende.
Immunization with O1 BFS virus generated antisera that was unable to neutralize the chimeric A/C virus containing this heterotypic epitope. The chimeric virus was generated by substituting the FMDV C3 Resende strain epitope described in place of aa 855-881 (NGTNKYSASGSGVRGDFGSLAPRVARQ) in the VP1 region of the polyprotein of the A12 virus.
