| name: |
A single amino acid substitution affects multiple overlapping epitopes in the major antigenic site of foot-and-mouth disease virus of serotype C.

| description: |
The positions of the epitope identified in the paper refer to the mature VP1 protein, which is processed from the polyprotein whose numbering is used in the database accession sequence.
Epitope-specific monoclonal antibodies 7CA11, 7JD1 and 7CA8 were raised against C3 Indaial and reacted with heterotypic C1 type vaccine virus C-S8c1 in whole virus ELISA, immunodots using whole virus, and with VP1 protein in immunoblots using infected cell lysate. 7CA11 and 7JD1 did not react in immunodots or immunoblots with escape mutants bearing H146R, but had equivocal results in reactivity in immunodots and immunoblots with mutants bearing T149M, T149A, or T149P. CA11 and 7JD1 are IgG1, 7CA8 is IgG3.
