Most of the 22 human sera reacted with the epitope or the cyclized epitope synthesized with N- and C-terminal Cys residues. The epitope inhibited the binding of human serum IgG to the 185,000 MW S. mutans antigen, which cross-reacts with the 3800 MW S. mutans antigen.
