description:	The epitopic residue is conserved in VP1 from multiple strains of poliovirus type 3. VP1 residue Thr96 was determined to be a critical residue recognized by the neutralizing mAb 27-4-4. Antibody-resistant mutants, isolated from Leon 970 type 3 poliovirus after 2 cycles of selection with mAb 27-4-4, had a Thr to Ser substitution at residue 97 .
