| name: |
Location and primary structure of a major antigenic site for poliovirus neutralization.
|
| description: |
The epitopic residue is conserved in VP1 from multiple strains of poliovirus type 3.
VP1 residue Thr96 was determined to be a critical residue recognized by the neutralizing mAbs 25-1-14, 25-4-12, 25-5-5, and 27-4-4, that recognize different epitopes within the same antigenic site. Antibody-resistant mutants, isolated from Leon 970 type 3 poliovirus after 2 cycles of selection with neutralizing mAbs, had an Arg to Gln substitution at residue 98.
