description:	The epitope was synthesized with an N-terminal Cys residue. The epitope sequence is conserved among enteroviruses and the source organism was arbitrarily assigned. The reactive patient was infected with echovirus 30. No IgM reactivity to the epitope was detected in sera from a another panel of 12 patients with culture-proven enteroviral infections, although the assay suffered from background problems.
