The epitope sequence is from the reference cited: Jimenez-Clavero et al. (2000) Virology 270: 76-83 [PMID: 10772981]. The epitope was deduced.
The epitope sequence was deduced through study of overlapping peptides. The mAbs also reacted with peptide VP3 (201-220) (PADAQSDCKILCFVSACNDF). Both peptides contain the motif DxQSxxxxxxF. The authors conclude that recognition of both peptides by the mAbs is due to cross-reaction since the peptides are distant from one another in the 3D model of the molecule.
