Epitope-specific mAb recognized E. coli RecA. Epitope was deduced by testing mutant RecA for loss of binding to the mAb. Mutants K294R, T315I, N332D, S333P, F337S, and S338F showed no cross-reactivity with the mAb in immunoblotting.
