Characterization of the immunodominant cross-reacting epitope of visna maedi virus and caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus capsid antigen.

| description: |
Four different recombinant subunits of ovine lentivirus p25 were tested against sera from infected goats. The highest ELISA absorbances were obtained with a 29 amino acid subunit located in the N-terminal half of p25. Through the analysis of overlapping peptides spanning this region the authors identified a 17 amino acid sequence as being shared by all fragments. This peptide is therefore considered a potential immunodominant and cross-reactive epitope. The conserved domain between CAEV and MMV is LNEEA + RW-R-NPP---.
