The epitope was deduced by testing overlapping peptides covering the entire P2 sequence. Epitope-specific mAb(s) recognized P2 of many strains included in this study. The epitope reactive with the mAb was widely distributed in among H. influenzae strains. The mAb did not bind intact live bacteria, indicating that the epitope was not exposed on cell surface.
