Sera from 4 of 6 mice immunized with phage, displaying the epitope synthesized with Cys and 3 Gly residues added to the N-and C-termini, promoted killing of N. meningitidis strain B385 cells in the presence of human complement. Serum from 1 of 6 mice immunized with phage, displaying the epitope with Cys residues added to the N-and C-termini, showed a bactericidal titer. The former pooled antisera showed a stronger recognition in a colony blot of intact N. meningitidis cells than the latter pooled antisera.
