This peptide is conserved among the Nichols and Chicago isolates of T. pallidum.
The sera were obtained 180 days after the induction of infection, when the animals are immune to homologous challenge. Previous immunization of animals with a recombinant N-terminal fragment of TprK (strain Nichols) did not significantly affect the recognition of this peptide.
