The epitopic residues recognized by mAbs 1F5, 1F9, 1G1, 2B5, and 3B9 were determined by sequencing neutralization-resistant virus variants selected with the mAbs. MAbs 1F5, 1F9, 1G1, 2B5, and 3B9 did not neutralize variants with mutation L236F in the VP3 protein or R286S or N288D in the VP1 protein. The mAbs also neutralized the Leon type 3 wild poliovirus, but did not cross-neutralize Sabin type 1 or 2 poliovirus.
