description:
This cyclic peptide was synthesized to mimic the crystallographically observed beta-hairpin conformation that region KDTNNNL adopts in the native PorA protein. D-Cysteine was chosen for for the contra-turn, because D-amino acids are known to stabilize a reverse turn. Similar requirements led to the choice of a glycine as an additional residue in the contra-turn.
Bactericidal titers were tested as described in Hoogerhout et al, 1995, Infect. Immun. 63, 3473–3478 [PMID: 7543883].
