name:
Epsilon-binding regions of the gamma subunit of Escherichia coli ATP synthase.
description:
The epitope sequence is from the reference cited previously by the authors: Walker et al. (1984) Biochim Biophys Acta 768: 164-200 [PMID: 6206892]. The epitope was deduced.
The epitope-specific mAb gamma-1 bound to ATPase synthase gamma subunit and competed the binding of ε to the gamma subunit. In separate experiments, mAb gamma-1 bound to ε-depleted F1-ATPase but only to trace amounts of normal F1-ATPase. The authors conclude that the epitope for mAb gamma-1 is occluded by the binding of ε to the enzyme.
