The anti-peptide antibody recognized fragments of M protein purified from limited peptic digest of type 24, but not type 5 or 6. There was weak or no response when rabbits were immunized with a peptide with glycine at position 11 substituted by lysine. The anti-peptide serum also recognized M24 fragments by double-immunodiffusion assay.
