Two mechanisms of antigenic diversification of foot-and-mouth disease virus.
description:
Epitope-specific neutralizing mAbs 7CA11, 7JD1, 7FC12 (all IgG1), 7EE6 and 7AB5 (both IgG3), and 7AH1 recognized VP1 from most of the FMDV type C isolates from South America tested in the study. The importance of residue His at position 10 was shown by the lack of reactivity of all mAbs with FMDV C1 South American isolate C5 Argentina/69 and Philippines type C isolates 1/88 and 3/87, which have a Gln at this position. Substitution with Arg or Leu at this position also reduces binding.
