This conserved sequence is present in 972 out of 1088 subtype H5 hemagglutinin sequences analyzed, while none of the 599 H1, 1749 H3, 204 H6, 238 H7 and 184 H9 subtypes hemagglutinin sequences analyzed contained the epitope.
The epitope-specific mAb 7H10 fails to neutralize any of H5 Influenza A virus tested (Avian A/VietNam/1203/2004, clade 1 and human A/Indonesia/CDC594/2006, clade 2.1) either in MDCK cells or in chicken embryos, suggesting that its epitope is not a neutralizing epitope.
