name:
Antigenic structure of the hemagglutinin of H9N2 influenza viruses.
description:
The epitopic residue recognized by the mAbs was determined by sequencing the HA from antigenic variant viruses selected with the mAbs. Escape mutants with a Thr182Ile or Asn183Asp substitution were not recognized by the mAbs. MAbs E2/3 and L67/7 also binds influenza A/chicken/HK/G9/97, A/chicken/HK/FY20/99, A/chicken/Hb/3/98, A/silky chicken/HK/SF43/99, and A/duck/HK/Y280/97, all belonging to the Y280 lineage of H9N2 viruses. The authors conclude that mAbs E2/3 and L67/7 recognize the previously defined site II, which includes amino acids 135, 183, and 216, on the H9 HA molecule.
